VICEROY Virtual Institute
The VICEROY Virtual Institute (VI) is a Department of Defense (DOD) sponsored program focused on developing the next generation of leaders in cyber, intelligence, and information warfare. The "CREATORS" consortium of Virginia Tech, Old Dominion University, and Norfolk State University is a commonwealth collaboration aimed at providing cadet and civilian students with experiential and skills-based experiences. This program focuses on building a pathway for students that aspire to work with or in the Department of Defense. Students involved in VICEROY will have the opportunity to collaborate on challenging applied research projects at the Virginia Tech National Security Institute, compete for DOD internships, achieve cyber certifications, and will receive professional mentorship.

- Attain knowledge in a specific cyber-related field.
- Work with teams of faculty and fellow students to solve complex national security problems.
- Access funding for cyber certifications.
- Access mentorship, networking, and other career development resources.
- Develop practical, result-oriented skills to complement your academic achievements.
- Receive invitations to DOD career fairs and summer internships at a variety of government labs and organizations.
- Receive competitive stipend or research assistantships.
Students will be required to meet the following requirements for consideration:
- Cadets/Midshipmen, Citizen Leader Cadets, and other DOD-aspiring students looking for careers in cybersecurity, intelligence, information warfare, and electronic warfare or communications.
- Degrees and/or Minors in CS, CE, and similar programs preferred
- Minimum of 2.7 GPA
- Must be U.S. Citizens
- Must be able to work in-person in Blacksburg, VA
- Open to all Students (Note: Freshmen as volunteer participants only)
Students will be required to meet the following requirements after acceptance into the program:
- Maintain at least a 2.7 GPA
- Apply to at least one DOD, Intelligence Community (IC), or approved Federal Internship
- Fall Fellowship: Participate in all Faculty-directed courseware, assignments, and work.
- Spring Assistantship: Faculty leads will approve students to continue as Undergraduate Assistants for the Spring Semester based on participation in the Fall. Selected students will be required to work at least 5 hrs per week and deliver both a final research report and presentation at the April '25 Hume Center Colloquium.
- Seniors: Apply to at least one DOD, IC, or Federal job.
