STEM Student Employment Program (SSEP) Intern Program
The Naval Surface Warfare Center is seeking interns for the STEM Student Employment Program (SSEP) Intern Program at the Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD).
The SSEP Intern Program provides direct hire authority for undergraduate and graduate degree seeking students enrolled in scientific, technical, engineering, or mathematics majors. The program was established to provide interns with exposure to public service, enhance educational experience, and possibly provide financial aid to support educational goals. Additionally, this program will provide a streamlined and accelerated hiring process to compete successfully with private industry for high-quality scientific, technical, engineering, or mathematics students for filling scientific and engineering positions.
Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) is one of the nine Divisions of the Naval Surface Warfare Center. The Division has two main locations, Dahlgren, Virginia and Virginia Beach, VA. NSWCDD is the Navy’s principal research, development, and test and evaluation for surface ship combat systems. We perform warfare analysis, research, design, development, systems integration, strategic missile systems support, special and amphibious warfare and fleet engineering services. As one of the lead laboratories for the Navy, our civilian scientists and engineers take on demanding research and development programs. They explore beyond the known boundaries of technology to design the nation’s defenses for the next century. The Dahlgren site is located approximately 55 miles south of Washington, D.C., 60 miles north of Richmond, VA, and 23 miles east of Fredericksburg, VA, between the Potomac and Rappahannock Rivers in Dahlgren, VA.
Dam Neck Activity provides research, development, test and evaluation, analysis, systems engineering, integration, and certification of complex naval systems associated with surface warfare and strategic combat and weapons systems. We are the only NAVSEA Warfare Center located in a major fleet concentration area, which enables us to leverage our unique laboratories and facilities for training and capability development. Our employees work with and support vessels such as aircraft carriers, submarines, small crafts, and minesweepers, as well as provide engineering for unmanned aerial, land, and sea vehicles. Our work is focused on providing engineering, acquisition, and logistical support to Navy, Special Warfare, Coalition, and Joint Forces. Dam Neck Activity is located on Virginia Beach's Atlantic shore, near the site where the Jamestown settlers first landed.
