Travel

Additional logistics and travel information for ASCENT 2024 will be provided as it becomes available. 

The overnight lodging and majority of the event will be held at The Inn at Virginia Tech with a few off-site events planned.  

Travel to Blacksburg and/or the Roanoke Airport (ROA) should be paid for by each individual school. Virginia Tech will cover the cost of transportation to and from the Roanoke airport (ROA).  It is imperative that you provide your flight information upon registration so that we can accurately schedule shuttles.  If the provided transportation does not meet your travel needs, car rental or taxi services are available.  Information can be found here  

In addition to transportation, Virginia Tech will cover the cost of lodging and meals for THREE students and ONE faculty member from each school.  If you wish to send additional students, please reach out to us. 

Roanoke is a small airport so flights may be limited.   We ask that you share your flight information when you register so that we may plan for shuttles to Blacksburg. Please see a list of tentative flights to get an idea of availability. 

Attire

Military Personnel: If participating as a speaker or panelist, please wear Class B, Service Khaki, Service B/C or equivalent regulation uniforms. All other military guests attending in uniform (encouraged but not required) should also wear Class B, Service Khaki, Service B/C or equivalent regulation uniforms.

Guest Internet Access

Virginia Tech is a participating eduroam institution. If your home institution is also an eduroam member, you already have wireless access here! You can connect using your school's wi-fi authentication credentials.

Wireless access will be provided by the Inn at Virginia Tech.  You may also request short-term internet access via the Virginia Tech Guest Wireless services

To register: connect to the Virginia Tech wireless network on your device and open a web browser. The Welcome to Virginia Tech landing page should open automatically. Select Guest and follow the prompts. After completing the registration form, you will receive an SMS text with your login credentials.
