About the Speakers
Ann Brinkley, Diversion Investigator:
Ann Brinkley graduated from Radford University in 2017 with a degree in Criminal Justice. She began working for the DEA as a contracted Analyst in February 2018 and attended the Diversion Investigator Academy in 2021. Following her training, she was assigned to the Roanoke Resident Office, where she has remained since. As a Diversion Investigator, Brinkley is responsible for preventing, detecting, and investigating the diversion of controlled pharmaceuticals and listed chemicals from legitimate sources, while ensuring an adequate and uninterrupted supply for legitimate medical, commercial, and scientific needs.
Erin Smith, Intelligence Research Specialist:
IRS Smith has worked in law enforcement intelligence for over 20 years, beginning in late 2003 as a HIDTA Intelligence Analyst assigned to the Washington/Baltimore HIDTA in Washington, DC. IRS Smith began her federal career with the DEA in September 2005, initially assigned to the Financial and Money Laundering Unit at the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) Fusion Center, located in Merrifield, Virginia. In October 2007, IRS Smith transferred to the DEA Washington Division Office (WDO) in Washington DC, where she spent four years supporting the agents and cases in the various offices falling under the umbrella of the WDO. IRS Smith transferred to the Dallas Field Division in October 2011, and was assigned to the Intelligence Unit at the Texoma HIDTA initiative, primarily supporting the Western Drug Squad, comprised of DEA Agents and Fort Worth Police Department Task Force Officers, in their investigations. In early 2021, IRS Smith was assigned to the Office of National Security Intelligence section at DEA HQ for a brief period of time before reporting to the Roanoke Resident Office in July 2022 and resuming case support activities. IRS Smith earned a B.A. in Communications from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia in 2003.
Special Agent Olsen: Previous military and law enforcement experience. Currently a special agent in the Roanoke, VA area.
