Hume IC CAE Research Fellowship Program
The Hume IC CAE Research Fellowship Program is a program for students involved in the IC CAE Scholars Program. The Hume Center offers an annual fellowship program for students interested in careers in the national security sector, both in industry and government service.
This program is open only to students who will be Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors during the 2023-2024 academic year and have earned at least 6 points in the IC Scholars program during the 2022-2023 school year.
This program runs for the entire academic year (August-May). It requires approximately 10 hours per week of dedication to a group research project. This will include weekly meetings with your team and your mentor(s), as well as independent research.
Regular project presentations are expected and the program will culminate in a presentation at the Hume Center’s annual National Security Colloquium.

Key requirements for applicants are as follows:
- Must be a current student of Virginia Tech.
- Must be a United States Citizen.
- Have a 3.0 grade point average or higher.
- Must be interested in a career in intelligence, defense, or national security.
- Must Earn at least 6 points in the IC Scholars program during the previous academic year.
We encourage applications from students majoring in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math subjects, but any major is eligible for the scholarships. We seek a diverse pool of applicants.
Students selected into the program will be required to:
- participate in and meet all requirements of the IC CAE program.
- undergraduate students are required to work in a multi-disciplinary team on an assigned research project related to the intelligence community or National Security.
- develop and present a research poster and present an oral presentation at the Annual National Security Colloquium.

Students are required to utilize Time Clock and will be considered a wage employee.
No, studying abroad will not disqualify you from receiving a scholarship. The experience of studying abroad is an asset to you and our program, so apply. However, you would still be required to participate in the research program for approximately 10 hours per week.
The co-op and the internship serve the same purpose, providing work experience in the DoD. You are welcome to apply for the scholarship. However, you would still be required to participate in the research program for approximately 10 hours per week.
