Tuesday, March 28, 2023

Date: Tuesday, March 28, 2023

Time: 6:00pm

Location: In-Person; Newman Library 101S

Open to students, faculty, and alumni from Virginia Tech and all other IC CAE institutions and CCI affiliations.

About the Event

Join industry leader Ron Keesing for an introduction to ChatGPT and the rapid evolution of large language models (LLMs) based on transformer architectures. After a brief introduction to these models and their capabilities, as well as an overview of their underlying architectures, we will consider whether they’re really worth all the attention they’re currently receiving. What does ChatGPT have to teach us about issues like knowledge representation, the importance of labeled data, or the distinction between “strong” and “weak” AI? Can we apply emerging regulatory frameworks and ethical AI principles to these models? Will ChatGPT and other LLMs democratize AI or concentrate power in a few hands?
