About the Speakers
Mr. Karim Hanna
Karim Hanna currently serves as the Section Chief, Language Services Section at FBI, and the FBI’s Senior Language Authority. Prior to his current role, Mr. Hanna served as the Director of the National Virtual Translation Center (NVTC), an IC Service of Common Concern for Translation. Mr. Hanna started his career in the Intelligence Community in 2003 as an Arabic linguist in the FBI’s Boston field office while completing his Masters studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He then relocated to the DC area, and in 2006 Mr. Hanna was promoted to be the Program Manager overseeing the FBI’s Middle Eastern languages. In 2011, Karim was selected as Unit Chief of the FBI’s Translation and Deployment Unit 1 (TDU1). In that role, Karim managed the Bureau’s Middle Eastern, African and French language resources and ensured linguistic support to priority FBI investigations throughout all FBIHQ divisions, field offices, and Legal Attaché offices. In 2016, Karim transitioned to the NVTC as its deputy director responsible for the Center’s operations, and in 2018 he took the helm as NVTC’s Director.
Karim and his wife Kristina have three kids, aged 16, 14, and six.
