About the Event

With the emergence of 21st century information technologies that increasingly connect, enable, and influence human activities, information operations (IO) and notions of mis/disinformation have predictably become a topic of much concern and debate, particularly within the defense community. Despite this, current debate often lacks coherence and awareness of prevailing concepts in the field. In particular, a brief examination of the U.S. defense community’s evolving doctrine, information-related capabilities (both technical and non-technical), and current challenges offers a helpful starting point for comprehending the role of IO both in competition and conflict.
